Event description:
While their peers go on vacation or laze around during the school holidays, a group of teenagers is busy preparing for its second major musical production — The Midnight Puppet. This time, they aim to perform at the Hong Kong Children’s Choir at year’s end after their performance at the MTC Hall, Kuala Lumpur on the 29th and 30th July 2006.
Simshen’s Junior Youth Choir, also known as The LittleNoise Choir was found in 2003. In December that year, the choir joined Singapore-organized 21st Century International Choral Festival held in Genting Highlands. The LittleNoise choir won gold in the Folk Song category and silver in the teenage category. In June 2004, Singapore had invited the Little Noise choir to perform in the Singapore’s Art Festival. Recently, the choir had also won “silver” in The Selangor Philharmonic Society’s “Group” singing competition. At the end of last year, they went to Taiwan for a five-day tour performance with two other choirs from Taiwan and Hong Kong. They also organized their first major musical — Jungle Wonder. Partly written by them, this was a stepping stone for them to produce more original works.
This year, these boisterous and adventurous teenagers are ready to cross their length and surprise Malaysia by bringing on their very own full-scale original musical – Midnight Puppet. All music, lyrics and script in this production are originally written and composed by the LittleNoise choir’s captain. Through their music, dance and act, they will bring you into the realm of fantasy as you stroll along the royal bouquets of Emi’s grand birthday party, hide between shadows in the stray cat’s alley or disappear into mists along with the three fairy godmothers. “Remember to be humble, and have a learning heart… to love!” sings an old man from a poor village as Emi, who has been selfish listens and learns the lesson of her life.
The Midnight Puppet is the story of Emi Griggs who comes from a wealthy family. She is so spoilt that her three fairy godmothers want to teach her a lesson. They give her a large doll for her 12 year old birthday. At midnight, the doll and Emi exchanges bodies and will stay that way until the charm is broken. Not realizing this, her parents gave Emi (the doll) to an orphanage, where she meets her own toys, and her first true friend. Her adventure begins when she plans her escape from the orphanage and starts her journey home.
“Hold on tight to every dream, there’s no fear to hide, there’s no tear to shed. Hold on tight to every hope, as long as there’s you and me!” The chorus of Midnight Puppet’s theme song is also the key to success for every choir member of LittleNoise. From props, backdrops, costumes to all kinds of designs and work that contributes to the musical are all done by the youngsters of the LittleNoise choir. “We are not professionals, but we have the spirit to do it professionally!” is what they truly believe in. Hence, what they need now is your support, love and passion towards music, art and the growth of young teenagers in Malaysia, to make this Musical a success!
